February 3, 1999
Statement from Linda M. Brown, Mendota Dakota Community, 2/3/99

Dear brothers and sisters, this will be a long letter, but there is so
much happening everyday now it's hard to keep up. I do so want to try and
keep all of you informed and hope you spread the word quickly. lawyer
Jordan Kushner recieved an order from judge Peter Albrecht today ordering
all parties into mediation. this process must start by Feb. 18th. this is a
very good thing although there was no restraining order included we hope
public pressure will keep MNDOT in line. so keep up the good work! a
decision was made today to delay presenting resolution to the legislature
until next week. Karen Clark is getting much flack from some of her fellow
legislators and we feel we need more time to provide enough info to enough
legislators get as many of these people on our side as possible . Mike
Haney and Cinnamon, a member of the Mendota Community, spent today at the
state offices lobbying for us. they had some good results and some bad.
Mark Gleason who is the actual representative from this area has graciously
agreed to sponser the resolution before the house. we are still trying to
get infomation to senator Jane Ranum who also represents this area. also
senator Linda Berglin will back this bill in the senate if we can get Jane
Ranum to sponser it. Mike Haney and Jim Anderson are going to return to the
state house tomorrow to ask for more support. i need to ask all of you
once again to help us with email, letters and phone calls, if you live in
Minnesota please let your senator, and representative know immediately that
you support our cause and ask them to support this for you. representative
Wes Skoglund was quite rude to Mike and Cinnamon, but mellowed a bit before
they left his office. rep. Carol Flynn who sits on the transportation
committee would not see them. I am going to add a list with names,
addresses, phone #s and email for the people that Mike met with today or
tried to see. Please let these reps know how you feel and ask for their
