Update from Linda Brown (04/08/99)
From Linda M. Brown:Dear Friends, I spent some time at the capitol today, along with some others who have been there since Tuesday working on the revival of the resolution. We still have alot of support from some of the Senators and Representatives and I believe it is time for everyone to start calling everyone of their own Representatives and Senators asking that they support this resolution. We have figured out a way for this to be heard on the full floor. Unfortunately we do not have the time to personally visit with each of these legislators and must once again rely on your help. Please make some time over the next week to call your own House and Senate representatives, if you live in Minnesota, and ask them to support a floor hearing, and also vote to help us protect this very important and sacred area. We need some Native American constituents as well as anyone who may live in;
Senator Linda Higgins district North Minneapolis, zip 55411-3226 phone 651-296-9246 email sen.linda.higgins@senate.leg.state.mn.us
to call or email her asap about this issue. It is very important that everyone contact these people but extremely important if you live in the State of MN. If they tell you this is a dead resolution assure them that we still have many friends at the capitol and we have found a way for this to be heard or voted on. Please remember it is very important that this be handled in a diplomatic way. The Minneapolis park board met on Tues. night and our supporters were able to speak at this for a few minutes each. It is again very important that these commissioner hear from everyone, but especially from residents of Minneapolis. The critical vote on the land transfer to MNDOT takes place on Wednesday April 21st, I will list the names and phone #s of the people that still need to be contacted. I believe these # are their voice mail #s, If they are full you can talk to the secretary and ask her to take messages.

We are planning a large Earth Day celebration at the park , it will be bring your own picnic, It is critical that we get as many people as possible there between 12 noon and 2PM as this is the period that the press will be there, and we would like to make this event as large as possible. There will be activities and fun all afternoon and everyone is welcome to join in, bring the folks, bring the kids, bring your friends, and lets make this a special celebration of the Park and all the connecting green space that needs to be saved. thanks once again for your time, efforts and prayers, Pidamiya, Love Linda
