Update from Linda Brown (06/17/99)
Dear Friends, just got word about 9:00 PM tonight that hennepin county judge lajune ruled against us in the transfer of land from the park board to MNDOT. We have heard from several different sources that there is a raid planned for tonight sometime. Just this past week posters for World Peace and Prayer Day which is Monday were delivered to Mayor Sharon Sayles Benton, Governor Jesse Ventura, and other public officials offices to invite them to participate with us in this important day of prayer for world peace. I quess they didn't understand the message. This will be the legacy they leave for the City of Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota, an unprovoked attack once again against the peaceful occupation for the protection of this Sacred Land. I wonder if they realize the polictical backlash that will come from this action. The whole world is indeed watching and it will reacte with repugnance and outrage over the cultural genicide once again perpretrated on Native American people by our Governments. We need all your support and prayers, please contact all the local and state officials office that you can reach and let them know how you feel about this action. Pidamiya, Peace and Prayers, Love Linda
Dear Friends, it is 8:30 AM Friday morning, many people came to the encampment last night in anticipation of a raid. We have heard rumors all week about a raid this weekend, some of our supporters had spoken with what they had considered reliable sources and were told this would happen last night. We experienced the same kind of rumors last time there was a raid, [ we heard about that 3-4 days in a row, and then the raid came on December 20th, when many had thought it would not happen]. We will stay alert all weekend, and count each day as a blessing. I will keep you all up[dated if something happens here. Thanks again for all your support and prayers. Love Linda
