We are often asked about how one goes about joining AIM.
Some typical statements are "I want to join AIM so I can
help". The first thing to understand about this is; one
does not have to be a member of AIM to help. If you support
the the things AIM represents, if you understand that AIM
is not a club - it is a Movement and a way of life. If you
stand to be heard when you witness an injustice, or write
letters, sign petitions, go to rallies, and not sit quiet
when you encounter racism, or help a brother/sister without
first making sure everyone will know it was you that helped,
then you are already a part of AIM. If you can put the
people first and yourself last in your actions and thinking,
then you are already a part of AIM. It's not necessary for
everyone that is a part of AIM to be a member of a Chapter.
Many become part of a support group so they can be kept
informed, many simply live the Commitment - for that is what
AIM is really all about. Living your life with this Commitment
is not as easy as just paying dues, but that's really the
only thing that counts.
If you feel that you can contribute more by being associated
with an AIM Chapter or support group than you can as an individual,
then contact us and let us know where you live. We can try
to put you in touch with the nearest sanctioned Chapter of AIM.
